Minack Theatre - The breathtaking outcome of one woman's dream
There is nowhere else quite like the Minack. Carved into the granite cliffs with front row views of the Atlantic Ocean - a theatre experience you will never forget. The whole place was the vision of one woman back in the 1930’s and she worked like an ox alongside her gardener to achieve it. Her unique vision is still thriving and today’s audiences continue to experience the magic of live theatre in this amazing place.
The attention to detail all around the theatre is staggering. From the Celtic symbols scrapped into cement, the carvings of previous performances to the wonderful landscaping. The Sub-tropical gardens planted around the terraces contain plants you would normally find on other continents thriving here dug into the cliff face staring out at the sun.
We sat on the grass terraces listening to the waves lap against the cliffs below to watch a morning story telling session with Squash Box Theatre – we were all enthralled. A one man show filled with laughs, nature facts and a fair bit of nonsense.
The little café had floor to ceiling windows looking out onto the Atlantic, which today in the sunlight was a beautiful shade of turquoise. You can walk down the steep steps of the coastal path to the sandy bay of Porthcurno.
You can’t help but be thankful for this amazing woman’s grit and determination that makes this special place what it is today.
